Cattle numbers at Toowoomba declined 27% this week, to 868 head. Young cattle made up the bulk of the yarding and sold to strong demand, with a fair selection of supplementary fed grown cattle also penned. Cow sections were notably mixed, and quality varied throughout, with most buyers active across all classes.
- Medium C2 yearling steers to feed averaged 6¢ lower, at 347¢/kg
- Heavy C4 grown steers to slaughter were up 7¢, averaging 329¢/kg
- Medium D2 cows to slaughter held firm, averaging 229¢/kg
Consignments at TRLX Tamworth decreased 42%, to 1,026 head. Younger lines were well supplied, with a good amount of heavy grown steers and cows on offer. Quality varied across all categories, with crop and supplementary finished lines well represented, along with a full field of buyers.
- Medium C2 yearling steers to feed were back 8¢, averaging 364¢/kg
- Light C2 yearling heifers to feed averaged 3¢ lower, on 346¢/kg
- Medium D2 cows to processors eased 13¢, averaging 218¢/kg
Wagga cattle throughput declined 44%, to 2,500 head. The ongoing wet conditions resulted in a mixed quality yarding week-on-week, with some lines showing the winter effects. Supplementary fed yearlings and heavy cattle however sold to strong competition, with northern restockers and feedlot buyers notably active throughout.
- Heavy C2 yearling steers to feed averaged 354¢, up 3¢/kg
- Medium C2 yearling heifers to feed were back 7¢, averaging 332¢/kg
- Heavy C3 grown steers to processors jumped 4¢, averaging 341¢/kg
At the close of Monday’s markets:
- The Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) averaged 657¢, back 1.25¢/kg cwt on where it finished the previous day
- Trade steers were up 4¢, on 349¢/kg lwt
- Medium steers were up 1¢, on 330¢/kg lwt
- Heavy steers were firm on 328¢/kg lwt
- Medium cows were up 2¢, at 243¢/kg lwt
- Feeder steers were up 3¢, on 361¢/kg lwt
